Oil on panel, 48” x 48”
The phrase ‘Ad Astra per Aspera’ is Latin meaning ‘through hardships to the stars”. Globally and personally we are living in a time of great upheaval and change which is always necessary to reach a zenith. As this painting began to weave a theme, this one was prevalent and also hopeful. I can’t ignore the overwhelming issues we all collectively face. The late amazing author John O’Donahue’s book ‘Beauty’ is a reminder that we need to nurture the beautiful song of a bird, the glassy stillness of a lake, the tightly wound bud of a rose regularly to rediscover the true sources of compassion, serenity and hope. The symbol on the left center is Japanese for the term ‘kintsukuroi’ which is the art of repairing pottery with gold and understanding that the piece is more beautiful for having been broken. We must embrace a love revolution to exist.
